The Chinese formula Shen Ling Bai Zhu San, also known by its English name Ginseng, Poria and Atractylodis Combination, belongs to the category of formulas that TONIFY QI, acting on Spleen Qi Deficiency syndromes with or without Dampness.
Indication: Recommended for Spleen Qi Deficiency with or without Dampness retention: spontaneous sweating, shortness of breath with exertion, feeling of heaviness in the body/head and “dizziness” in the head, soft stools, increased frequency of bowel movements, fatigue.
Actions: Tonify Spleen Qi; Eliminate Dampness
Syndromes: Spleen Qi Deficiency with or without Dampness
Symptoms and signs: Loss of appetite, increased frequency of bowel movements, soft stools, flatulence (odorless), abdominal distention, fatigue (laziness), weak and slow movements, weakness in the lower limbs, muscle weakness, exhaustion after minor effort, paleness, spontaneous sweating, drowsiness.
DAMPNESS: + heaviness in the body/head, lack of appetite, chest/epigastric oppression, difficulty urinating, cloudy urine, excessive vaginal discharge/brittle stools/difficulty concentrating (reading => drowsiness), sensation of “dazed” head
Tongue: pale, swollen (teeth marks)
Coating: white/greasy, thin/thick
Pulse: weak/slippery, slow
